School Gymnasium Acoustics - Part 1

Rangiora New Life School (RNLS), a composite school of 402 pupils in North Canterbury, built a 1600 sq. m. state of the art Events Centre in 2013. It incorporates two three quarter sized and one full sized basketball court, an eleven metre high ceiling, electronic scoring system, lighting and heating systems plus a complete theatre including extendable 8 metre wide stage full wings, changing rooms, classrooms and catering facilities.

'Reverberation and echoes were limiting the usefulness of the Events Centre'

The centre is not only used by the school for physical education classes, sports, assemblies, concerts and theatre productions it is also used by many community groups and conference organisers as one of the premier venues in Canterbury.

The management of RNLS contacted us in 2014 to find a cost-effective way of taming the excessive reverberation and echoes which were limiting the usefulness of the Events Centre, especially for theatre, concerts, events and meetings...
